I have 3 of the Lionel sound cars, the Great Northern boxcar was my first one. Its been on the layout since I purchased it and has 115 operating days logged in. Since it has about 8 more months of warranty time left, thought I would run the heck out of it to see if it would hold up. So far so good.

Anyone ever hear of these sound boards just giving up the ghost from heavy use ?

I've had a SFRD sound refrigerator car since October. It's been fine.

No. I think they are pretty bulletproof.

There's nothing about the sound card that should fail with use, other than a terrible voltage spike taking them out.

If you're really wanting to protect them, adding a TVS across the track power in the car is a good investment.

Thats what I assumed guys. The sound boards are pretty robust and only a real nasty electrical issue could fry em.
