doing my first layout.but I am doing an area,something like were they mite store extra rails.kinda of maybe a railroad junk yard? I have already the plans for it,so I don't need them.but if a real railroad rail was ho scale,how long would it be? would like to get some old ho track and take the ties of from it,then I could cut them to lenght.and maybe find some paint and,and paint them so they look rusted.also would like to find an old flatcar,and cut it, a little longer then the rails and stack some on that.just picked up a used crane mounted on a flat car today.

Standard American Rail is 39 feet. Multiply by 12, divide by 87= 5.37 inches.
Ho Scale.
Ties are four feet = .55 inches.

Standard gauge ties would be about 8 1/2' long, 9" x 7" though few would quibble with square stock. They'd be about 1 1/8" by 1/8". I use black magic marker to stain them to look like new, then weather accordingly...

In shame and error only if you take up scrap booking or something...

P.S. I had to correct my own dimensions...1 1/8" not 1 1/2"...must be mom's fruitcake kicking in
