In 1992/1993 Fine Art Models in conjunction with the Smithsonian and Lionel produced the (2-rail) Pennsy Loewy K-4 Pacific (Lionel catalog # 6-18028) and three versions of the (2-rail) BR-50, a German prototype
BR-50 Class 2-10-0 Decapod, presumably primarily for the European market (Lionel catalog #s 6-18031, 6-18035 and 6-18036).

The 6-18031 'Bundesbahn 50644' was a post-war version of the German BR- 50 with DB (German Railways) markings under the cab window, the 6-18035 'Reischbahn 50264' was the pre-war version and the 6-18036 was the pseudo-French version with SNCF (French National Railway) markings under the cab window.

I do not remember how many of the Pennsy Loewy K-4 Pacific units were made. I believe 300 units of the BR-50 Class 2-10-0 Decapod were made - 150 of the French version and another 150 were made of the German version.

Please correct me if I am mistaken on any of the above.

My question for you is do you know of anyone who might have either of these Lionel units - Pennsy Loewy K-4 Pacific or the BR-50 Class 2-10-0 Decapod - and would be interested in selling them? Or can you please point me in the right direction as to where I might be able to locate one or both of these models for sale? I rarely see the Pennsy Loewy K-4 Pacific on Ebay and never see the BR-50 for sale on Ebay.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Lionel Smithsonian 18028 PRR 'Torpedo' K4 & NYC Dreyfuss

Lionel 18028 Pennsylvania Loewy-design 'Torpedo' K4 4-6-2 and tender with display case, factory-sealed C10 in original shipping carton, with special wooden case. I have one MINT, it is truly beautiful. Mine has NEVER RUN, not even on the Display Case, which includes electrified track, and small rollers under the drivers, so this can be displayed and actually be operated inside the display case. I am primarily the operator of a multi level, wide radius layout, and collected during my Naval Career, mostly at sea until the early 90s, then in Bosnia and Kosovo, and Saudi Arabia until about 2003, retired in 2004. Mine is listed on my web site under Comprehensive List. Here is the HTML link:

I also have the Smithsonian Dreyfuss locomotive, in both 2 Rail Scale and 3 Rail Scale ... both the 2 Rail Scale locomotives are EXTREMELY RARE, but are for sale at a premium. This rare, highly detailed and fragile model of the New york Central's Dreyfuss Hudson was made for Lionel in 1992 for their brass Smithsonian series. This engine, made for 2-Rail, is considered the finest O scale model ever made. It even has hatches that open to reveal piping detail.
