I am finally back home and just noticed no one responded. The vertical bar on some of the earlier Hudson trailing trucks apparently was included to keep the truck from swinging too far side to side. It was removed from production apparently because it served no required function.
All of my Hudsons have that "high" bar on the back of the loco. That's where the tender mounts to. The screw hole in the chassis is for the rear trailing truck. Sorry, I didn't see your post either...
AHA!!! Some of my Hudson's do have that...Instead of relying on my memory, which is usually wrong, I checked my Hudson's and of course you are very correct...Brain farts, you know,lol??
