I have an old Bill Bowser maybe Knapp 4-8-2 M1 that needs to be stripped of paint. I did get it running. What is the safest way to remove paint from brass ? I want to restore this back to original.

Are you going to remove the motor, all of the trim, etc., just down to a bare shell? If so, I would think that a typical oven-cleaner bath would get most of the paint off, not damaging the brass. You'll have cleanup to do, afterwards ... Scotchbrite, etc., and may have to repeat the oven-cleaner process a second time. But I think the brass itself would be OK, needing a buff/polish afterwards. My thinking, anyway.
