I have this train set that I bought in 1996. Used it only a couple of times because of the engine (E-8 Locomotive), which was too weak for the inclines on my layout.

I want to keep the body but swap out the motor and undercarriage. Does anyone know what E8 engine manufacturer will fit with the engine body I have? Must be DCC or DCC ready.

Thanks

Not much out there except the Proto2000 E-8. That is all I could think of, off hand. It may require some work for the old shell to fit a new chassis. Look for a parts engine on eBay and give it a try.

I believe the old Rivarossi E-8s were only driven by one truck. Perhaps you could install a second power truck and some weight to get the unit to perform to your requirements.

That or double up on your locomotives if you can find another AEOE engine...

I have that same set. I have not run mine. I hear they are not good pullers.
Good looking train though. I have some proto E8s, someday I will see if I can get
the AOE shells on the proto chassis. I got a great deal on Rivarossi E8s and bought
around 6 A-B sets of them. New. LOL, Maybe not such a great deal.

My rivarossi E8s might be A-A sets. Been a few years since I looked at them.
