Scale size comparisons

I'm in the process of creating a project, right now just the thinking stages. I can't find what I need in a plastic model kit. I know AF is 1/64 scale, but of course nothing is made in that scale..My question is would 1/72 be closer in comparison to 1/64 or would 1/48 be a better choice? My Math tells me 1/72 is closer, but 1/48 is closer in actual size....

It depends on the specific building and the specific kit. We selected a number of kits from the Walthers catalog that were not S scale. Most were HO (1/87), but a few were O scale (1/48.) The HO scale buildings we used were models of large prototype structures so they had the right height and footprint. At most we had to cut in some 1/64 scale doors so the scale people would not hit their heads. The opposite was true for O scale structures, we used models of small prototype structures.
If you have found 1/72 scale structures they will be so close to S scale they will work as is.
