I knocked this together over the last couple of days to provide a way to conveniently choose an engine that I might want to run on any particular day, but it makes for a nice display as well.

Anyone got something similar?

Yeah, I'm sort of an AHM, Rivarossi, Pocher, Genoa, Reno, Inyo, Bowker fan. All are different in one way or another. Still have missing road names to go.

Got all three road names on the Y6 Mallets though. Top shelf and bottom row are works in progress.

Functional if not spectacular.

Nice, as long as you don't live in earthquake country. :D:thumbsup:

Ya know, I thought of that.

About five years ago we had a little trembler centered more down toward Richmond Va. West Virginia is pretty solid ground.

Thought about a glass door. Probably not, but it would be nice.
I was half way up the Jersey pike in a rest area taking my lunch break in an 18 wheeler.
The ground started rocking and rolling, strange as I have never been in an earthquake before that one.

Something like maybe piano wire strung across?
Small chain?
If you run a small strip of wood across the length it would block looking at the wheels.

Instead of the wood strips of Plexiglas?

Whatever you do and if one hits the whole wall might fall down. :p

Just insure them, lol.

Looks nice. :)

Thanks Big Ed.

And looks like we think alike Bob.

I used 1/2 X 2 X 36" "Craft Board" from New Zealand available at Lowes and backed it with Luan. 2 1/2" between shelves just clears my locomotives. #6 1 1/2" flat head brass screws hold it together.

The craft board from New Zealand looks like the Radiata Pine from New Zealand that I get from Home Depot in 1X sizes. Some nice stuff.

I made mine from 1X oak (from HD) for the frame, 3/8” oak (that I salvaged from an old set of drawers) for the shelves 5mm luan for the back. The shelves are free floating. The frame corners and back are glued. To mount it, I screwed through the back into studs.

Love those models, the Mercedes Gull Wing, the Nash/Hudson Metropolitan, the twin Buicks, The Vw's. But what stands out to me is the Black and Red Corvette and the 46-48 Ford Woodie.

Nice collection.

Nice Lee, and I agree it's almost as much fun to look at them as it is to run them. Keeping them handy is a plus.

Got the rest, but what is the make and model of your top shelf streamlined locomotive? Very, very nice.

I'm thinking about using 1X2"X8' pine furring strips for my next one. Much cheaper at about $8 for a pack of six.

Put two four footers on either side of this mural on the far wall.

Nice Ken, adds class. :)

I also found a display case on Craigs list advertised for $10 then amended to "free". I cleaned it up and filled it with model airplanes.

wvgca - My interpretation - West Virginia Ground Controlled Approach (I used to teach aviation navigational aids and live in WV.)

I thought about using track but it would have thrown off my calculations. It's a tight fit even now at 2 1/2" between shelves and 3" centers. Adding another 1/8" would have through me into mathematical chaos maintaining the intervals. :)

similar, for HO stuff ... image shows brass track being added to it six years ago .. built by a friend of mine, Bert, I -think- it was around sixty dollars ??

no glass or doors added, not much dust to speak of, and no quakes, lolo
Shelves look solid, are they screwed through the plywood from behind?
Any chance of seeing what it looks like now?

Your Picture is intriguing showing the corner of a control panel in he upper right corner. Apparently, fairly high. Any chance of a picture of that area?

Bill
Bill, rsv1ho - Here is a wider shot of the switch panel (taken before I built the car shelves) and a link to the thread for the staging area. And rsv1ho, the twin Buicks are a result of forgetting that I had one when I got the second one.

I think they are Skylarks, Buick only made them in 1953 IIRC. Full scales are worth a pretty penny today.
