If your speaking about the postwar 2037 with old pill type smoke unit that had wires wrapped around a porcelain insulator then yes replace all of the packing and make sure the little cutout groove packing in it goes over the airhole that is there you can see it when packing is removed it can get clogged from the smoke pills over time. The plunger going up pushes air through that little hold puffing your smoke up and out.
