Hi,
I'm new to this forum and just beginning to get back into HO RR hobby after many years away.
I have several passenger cars that have truck mounter couplers with no gear box or cap. They appear to accept a snap-in coupler. They are Horn type couplers that I wish to replace with magnetic knuckle type.
Are there any things I need to know? Is it feasible to mount gear boxes directly onto the car? I believe the cars came from Cor-Con.

Welcome.

Yes it is feasible to body mount couplers...provided you have sweeping curves in the 42" + range. Your better bet would be to use the Kadee #508 conversion kit and truck mount them.

Photo of Old Coupler

I have attached a photo of the truck and coupler from one of my old model Passenger cars. I'm not sure of the manufacturer, but I have 3hree or four cars of differing brands that were all made from the same mold.
It looks to me as though something like the Kadee #505 may be what I need to use, but I'm not sure how to go about the change over.
