Hi,
I have a problem with my athearn mp15 diesel with tsnami sound. I still cant get it to program with a resistor on the program track. You can hear some clicking when you try to read a CV value but nothing shows up. Any suggestions. I tried to do a reset but I can't tell if that even worked.
Thanks
Bill

When resetting a decoder, the address will default back to 03.
You may have to hit the reset function several times to reset all functions to the factory default. The design of the decoder is to just reset the address on the first reset. Other settings like speed tables and sounds will stay unless subsequent reset commands are issued in rapid succession.

...The design of the decoder is to just reset the address on the first reset. Other settings like speed tables and sounds will stay unless subsequent reset commands are issued in rapid succession.

This is incorrect. A reset of a QSI, for example, requires three separate entries, but the reset is accomplished with one press of the 'enter' button, the last one. For others, a change of CV8 to a value of "08" should completely restore the affected decoder(s) to factory defaults, including no momentum/inertia, changes of direction for long hood movement, lighting, and the various sound levels. For example, resetting a LokSound or a Tsunami with CV8 will soon have the decoder immobile until the proper CV2 V-Start voltage is set to enable movement at the first speed step, and all volumes of sounds will be at their factory default volume...usually 'full'.

That is to say, if a Tsunami requires three separate resets to be fully reset, there's a distinct problem.

As soon as you press 'enter' to effect the address change, the power must be removed from the rails momentarily. People often forget this. When the system has power back to the rails, the decoder will effect the reset completely and then respond to Add "03."

If you can't get the decoder to reset, use programming on the main, or often called Ops Mode, and acquire address "00". Then do the address change or reset that way.

[Warning! Remove ALL OTHER decoders from the bus BEFORE doing the reset/re-address. If you don't, all other decoders will reset/re-address.]

Actually, and this may be the difference from what I was told by soundtraxx.. I was having a problem resetting my alco at one point(econami), and contacted them about it. I reset it to 08, but, two things I was advised:

1. The lights should actually flicker(he said it would flicker up to 8 times quickly. I couldn't count the fast flickers, so I just watched it flicker, and took it as that) when the 08 reset is successful.

2. Most important, as you said you had a resistor(did you mean capacitor, aka current keeper? ) in it, unless I read incorrectly. You have to give the soundtraxx decoders, as I was instructed by them, a good 10 to 15 seconds without power(after wipingwith CV08), before putting them back on the track. I always at first just counted to 30 Mississippi after I removed them from the programming track to be sure I let it wait long enough. Now, if you "do" have a capacitive system(keep alive, current keeper, capacitor, etc.), that time is going to be quite a bit longer. If that is the case, and anything like my T2's or other locos with capacitors, it can take anywhere from 10 seconds on up to 30(it does take that long honestly) for the power to leave the capacitor/ locomotive(the lights will dim, and sound go down, and then both will cut off) . Then, you begin your count down for resetting mentioned in first step.

Honestly, if I had to reset one(locos with the capacitive system), I would just do the reset on the locomotive, take it off the track so the power will leave the system, and go do something else right quick. Then, by the time I got back, it would be ready for the next step.

Those are the three tips from my experience with t2's with and without capacitors.. Hope it helps..

Also, what DCC system are you using, as there may be a different process or steps needed(mine is a powercab, so my instructions and examples are with that)..
