Have you seen the electric heated steam engine?
Why they did it in switzerland, was because of world war 2 when all countries around switzerland were in war.
Mostly controlled by germany switzerland became a heating coal problem so they decided to electrificate nearly all their RR tracks. The Switzerland Railways could not build enough electric engines but they had lot of water powered electricity power plants. So they decided to boil the steam locos water by electric heaters, that is why some steam locos became electric pantographs onto their roof.
At the Luzern RR Museum of Transportation is one of those restored electric heated steam engines in use.
