I never saw one like this.
If you zoom in on the picture there are markings on top of the tunnels portal.
What do these say? Can you make them out?
What is the measurement to the top of the portal from the base? (The height of the entrance where the train would run through?)

Almost looks big enough for Standard gauge trains from the picture? Looks to be around 10/12 inch?

Where did you find it?
Almost looks like it would come from Europe from the castles on it.

I will search around.
Note,
I inserted the picture but see you found out how to insert it instead of a link.

How about this one?
It was made by Marklin.
Looks to be the same one, yours just needs a little paint . :)

I answered in the other thread you asked this in, I didn't see you started a new thread.
Maybe the Mod can move T Mans and my answer over here?

Thanks to John. ( I think?)
Someone moved it out of the other thread.

Abracadabra.....Thanks to you T man I see. :)

I am pretty sure it is 1 gauge made in Germany.
1 gauge would be the size of G scale here in the states.

What are your plans?
Clean it up and paint it?

Nice save from the scrap pile, you saved a piece of history.:)

Hmmmm, the OP left without saying anything? :dunno:

Well, I will add that castle above was going to auction with a starting price of $375, I think it was listed around 2015. I don't know what it actually sold for.

This one is missing the castle up top, it sold for $540 back in September 2018.

Tent Tunnel Rock

If you ever come back may I ask what you paid for it?
What are your plans for it?
Do you run G scale trains?
Maybe you have a garden layout?

Edit, I think the tunnel was made in 1912, not sure, but I believe it was from around that time period.

The tunnel opening is approx 210mm high.
Wow, cant believe its been found that easy, you guys are amazing!
I have only just bought this by accident because the it looked so cool. Just at a local junk shop, manchester uk.

I am not a collector so it is available, it has a nice rust/flaky green paint patina effect.

Is this mostly US people posting?

Thanks for the info.

Your welcome, that would fit in nice on a garden RR.
We have members from all over the world, I guess the majority are from the States.
That was made in Germany, I don't think you will get what the others I posted brought in at auction. Because of the shape it is in.
But maybe you can sell it to a collector over there and make a few bucks? It looks in good shape and all is there? So someone who knows what he is doing, could redo that up to make it look new.
Or someone who runs the 1 gauge will want it just like it is on his RR?

Either way it is a piece of model RR history over a 100 years old you have there.

Glad to help. :)

I always thought originality was key, wont re painting lose the authenticity of a Marklin?
If it is original paint that is.

Depends on who you talk to and the item in question.
People have different views on this.

To some having the original box means more, and sometimes if you have the box it will go for more then the item.
A lot of boxes back then were tossed, right away.

Also if redone right ( I think ) will bring you more if you sell it.
But this is just my opinion on this item.
Some might think otherwise.
Depends on who is buying it too.
