I did a test track run on my Lionel D&H RS11 today. It runs very nicely in conventional mode. Quick and responsive.

In TMCC, it seems a bit sluggish getting up to speed. Compared to the C420, it is a bit slow to build up speed. I reprogrammed the engine and there wasn’t any change. I swapped the radio board out with another good one and the results were negligible. No real improvement.

I checked all the boards and reseated them on their pins

I looked at the gears and they are clean, no caked grease. The engine does build up speed but not as quickly as the Lionel C420.

Any suggestions?

I had the NYC version. From what I remember it accelerated slowly up to about the 15th speed step. After that the speed increased more noticeably between each step. I’m not sure. I don’t believe these early TMCC engines had an off switch for the speed control. These had Odyssey with 32 speed steps. The 420 may not have the Odyssey cruise. At the time. Lionel was trying to please 2 camps. Those that wanted great slow speed performance. Where the engine would crawl and had realistic slow acceleration. The other camp that wanted to run at a faster clip like the older Postwar ones This is why in the higher steps there where huge jumps in speed. At the time these were and still are nice running locos. Just not like the newer Legacy and ERR versions.

Have you played with the Momentum settings?? Might be worth a look.
+1. You need to change the momentum settings to match your running expectations. Try L, M and H.

Okay, great. Thanks for all the suggestions about setting the steps. I will give that a try and see how that works.

Thanks again.
