As Mixed Freight said, it`s pretty straight forward. I've installed DPDT switching on my set up and haven`t had any issues. Just have to be mindful of what is being run at a given time.

Thanks for all your help guys. I've watched some of those videos too and it seems like a lot of people have done this. Just have to be careful.

If you use straight DCC you will eliminate that entire control panel, with the possible exception of the twin-coil machine switches. And that can also be dispensed with using DCC servo controlled switch machines. This is the 21st Century.
