Hey all,

I managed to pick up a couple of used engines, and I was wondering what would cause the engines to stop and start on the track.

I set up a small oval of Power Loc track to run them, just to check them out.

One is a is, I believe, a Bachman Burlington Northern U boat, and the other is a Bachman (Hong Kong) Santa Fe F-7 (? not sure)..

Both were disassembled and cleaned, then reoiled and regreased.

I checked my track to make sure I had good connections between sections. good there...

I got them both to run, except, that while they are running, all of a sudden, the locomotive will hestitate, then start up again, and then run fine.

Not sure what the problem is..do they need more cleaning?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated:thumbsup:

Back in business:thumbsup::D

Ian have you cleaned bothe the wheels and the rails of the tracks. I would use Alcohol on a old T Shirt for the wheels. Put some alcohol on the t shirt and run the wheels allowing the other wheels to touch.
For the Track No-Ox is the best product I've found. Walthers is a good source.
Or alcohol and a green scrub pad with a dry t shirt to follow up with.

Otherwise I wouldn't think they would hope on your track
And from the sounds of it the layout isn't too large.

I had a transformer that would cause that same problem.
Hooked up a different transformer and problem went away.
Might check that as well.

Chief,

No, these are the only two that do it. My third locomotive runs fine all the time.

I will check my transformer and try the alcohol idea with the wheels as well

thanks guys,

Cheers, Ian
