From Wrecking ball to a matchstick!
My wife is from Milwaukee and was 12 when Union Station caught fire(or was it arson..hey) and remembered her Mom & dad being in tears when they had to tear down the gem of the midwest. Next to the clock tower of City hall nothing approached the station in terms of height and archatectural grandeur. Funny thing was when they closed the station to move into the new downtown station(what a dump) a few days later Union station went up in flames. It just smells like arson...and insurance job. The Milwaukee Historical society has a great display at the Milwaukee City Museum and the Public library has a whole section on the Station. Good find!
