I am currently using Atlas code 100 turn outs. I have some older brass ones, these have never given me an issue. I bought some nickel silver within the last six months. Some of these are causing derailments. Did Atlas let there quality go? The turn outs look the same when I inspect them visually.

I need to replace about 20 Atlas turnouts. Most are #4 I want to stop the derailments and secondly improve the look. I went to not so local hobby shop (hobby stop in Rock hill SC) today to look at some turnouts. This store has a better selection than my 2 LHSs. I looked at the shinohara and the peco. I like them both. some pros and cons for each. I did not find a match for the atlas number fours that I will be replacing. I do not want to have to rework any more of the road bed than I have to. I did buy one Peco small radius turnout with an insulated frog. It is close and I liked the snap spring. I need fast switching as I like to run the trains close to one another. This is going to be a big investment for me so I want to get it right the second time, first time I was a Kidd. I use code 100 and DC as most of my stuff is old. Any thought and suggestion?

Thanks John

mangaed to snap lot of old shinohara and more recently peco insulfrogs. pecos are DCC friendly outside of the box. shinoharas IMHO look much better but need tedious conversion to be DCC friendly. AFAIK new shinohara/walthers that are ready to go are all code 83. then there is build it yourself turnouts by central valey, i hear some people swear by them. no personal experience and all i see is code 83/70 on their website.

i'd choose pecos
IMHO
