Lubriplate or an equivalent white grease is Ok for the plastic gears. Carefull on some of the oils, the detergent ones, such as WD-40 could hurt the plastic. Once a year if you run regularly. Remove excess to avoid picking up dust dirt which then can get on the brushes causing an open on the motor.
