Yes, again, I was gifted a Weaver converted troopsleeper in the REA schem. It a beautiful car, but…

The trucks are toast. Again, the zinc rot strikes. I knew about the issues with Weavers troop sleeper trucks, but now I get to experience them first hand.

Are their suitable replacements for them? Does Atlas make the express trucks?

Well, I ended up repairing the trucks. The side frames were broken at the bolster/side frame. They were all clean breaks.

I unscrewed the screw that attaches the side to the bolster, then I fashioned a small “L” brass brackets and the mixed up some JB Weld epoxy. I placed epoxy on the broken joints and used the brass parts as reinforcement in each joint And then used the side frame screws to pass through the brass parts and back in


I rubber banded the side frames to the bolster and let them dry overnight.

Here Is the car, a very nice Weaver troop sleeper converted to a REA express car…

Oh, okay. I contacted a couple sources about replacement trucks. No one suggested the Lionel ones. They look pretty close! Thanks Pete!
