So I’m in the middle of building a Walthers cornerstone concrete coaling tower and was thinking to myself “this is definitely not my favorite model kit I’ve ever put together” so I got to thinking about the model kits I’ve built in the past and the more I think about it I like the more “colorful” kits. Yea the big railroad buildings are the center of attention in your yards other than the trains but I personally find the smaller industries more enjoyable to build. I built a tyco general store kit which on my layout is gonna be Kate’s country kitchen (named after my mom) and genuinely enjoyed that build. I would like to hear what kits others enjoyed to build. Doesn’t have to be a building just a model kit in general

I don't have any special kit as my favourite one but some kits reflecting oldtime main street sceneries I like more when building my fictional roadname coming through town like this:

From the left side on Main Street:
DPM - Frontstreet Building and Corner Café than behind the place Cornerstone's Merchants Row followed by old Kibri Kit (American Model Builders Kit) of Frontiers Town Ammunition Shop followed by Lifelike Police Station, ahead Church the town Monument an old WW 1 Field Artillery Canon behind the level crossing a Cigar & Tabacco Shop and the Woodland Scenics Pharmacy
In the middle a self built loading dock and freight house there behind the DPM modulars learning kit and the woodland scenics gas Station.
Behind in background one another DPM Small shop building ahead a a bigger School house scratchbuilt from two Auhagen RR Station Buildings of prussian style.

My favorite kits are Proto2000 8,000 & 10,000 gal tank cars......

I think they are the best tank car kits ever! :smilie_daumenpos:

My favorite kits include a wide range of different types.
From Walthers Cornerstone plastic stuff, to FOS wood kits, to Sylvan vehicles, and Accurail kits.
Even some of the old stuff, like Athearn BB, MDC, etc.
All nice.

Some of my current favorites:

FOS kits.
Cornerstone kits.
Sylvan kits.
Accurail.

I have the upmost respect for those people that have the patience to build some of the European style buildings. I don’t have a steady enough hand to paint some of those small parts if they’re cast into the walls. They would all end up the same color as the rest of the building

All of those parts are applied. The only paining I usually do are for small external details and weathering the roofs.

You do need patients though I'll say that much.

I also found that I really like the bowser 2 bay hopper kits. I built a small fleet of them to use on my layout due to where I’m modeling there is an absolute over abundance of those cars going in and out of the local sand mines. In my neck of the woods I’ve found that there is roughly 1000 2 bay hoppers per day loaded and shipped out to the fracking operations. Wedron silica turns out roughly 3 unit trains at a minimum of 200 cars per day sometimes 4 on a busy day

Here are a few HO scale wood kits that are on my O scale layout. They are located on the top level, where a loop of S scale track runs and the structures give a forced-perspective look, of sorts. My favorite is the yellow & blue plastic split-level house that I built in the mid 1960's.

I’ve seen people use that method of using smaller scale models to provide depth. It’s a brilliant idea if you can do it effectively
