Looking at a shell is not always the best way to determine a manufacturer. I like looking under the hood to see the style of motor used. Then I go to HO Seeker and see a similar parts diagram.
I find it hard to buy a used HO engine at a show. There are so many different makes. I usually know what brand I want to buy.
Looks like an older Athearn to me.......body is over-scale width, which they did back then to accommodate the fatter motors of the time..... plus the handrails and stanchions are classic old Athearn.....no doubt about it.....
While the Athearn box in the photo has a label for a different model, the model is 100% also Athearn. It's their old "GP9" (which is actually a GP7, but Athearn sold it as a "GP9") with the old "fat" body (to fit larger motors of the time it was originally tooled. Someone cut away part of the skirting on the side to change that profile.
The trucks may have been changed, as the pick up wipers are missing which are clearly showing on Stumpy's pictures.
Or they are just gone for what ever reason.
