Actually it's a trolley. When I put it on the tracks with power it just lights up. So opened it up. When i place the power leads at spots 2 and 3 on the first picture, same thing. Light just goes on. No motor.

However when I apply the power directly to the motor at the two arrows in the 2nd picture the motor spins.

Any ideas?

Obviously, from your report, the motor is good but is
not getting track power. Since track power exists
where you have the red and black wires from the trucks,
follow the wiring to the motor terminals. There is a lack of
continuity in either (or both) the red and black wires
which should be obvious. There should be a red
wire AND a black wire to the motor from the truck wires.
Perhaps a cold solder joint.

Don's right. The power is not getting from the wheels, to the motor, but it is getting from the wheels to the lamp. There must be some sort of bad connection between the spot where the lamp is getting power and the motor is not getting it. Do you have a multimeter? It can be a great help in tracking down the trouble spot in cases like this. The meter doesn't need to be fancy or expensive. Harbor Freight tools www.harborfreight.com sells the meter shown below for just $5. It will do any job needed on a model railroad, and it comes with printed instructions.

good luck;
