I have some old train cars from the 60's- 80's, and I need to replace the wheels. I didn't know there were so many choices of wheels. I'v seen 28' 33" and 36" . What does this all mean. I just want to get some of these old freight cars running for my grandson. Any simple solutions?
What you want for freight cars is 33" scale size. Passenger cars usually use 36" and over height cars use 28". Most HO equipment uses scale 33" wheels, hope that helps.
You'll find that the axle widths vary slightly. Kadees tend to fit most brands. I find Intermountain fits most Tycos and Life-Likes better than Kadees. Proto 2000 seem to fill out what is left.
