I have some old train cars from the 60's- 80's, and I need to replace the wheels. I didn't know there were so many choices of wheels. I'v seen 28' 33" and 36" . What does this all mean. I just want to get some of these old freight cars running for my grandson. Any simple solutions?

If the truck is not broken you can pop the axle out. By rearranging them you should get some up and running. Slight pressure will free the axle. Try not to break it. A hobby shop may have used junkers and just buy them for the wheels. For boxcars they are fairly standard but for coaches the trucks can be different. This is for the common toy set. Look at what you have and see what you can switch.
