Hey there,

I am new to this forum and not a train collector. I have a red locomotive that belonged to my dad. It has a mechanical wind up engine. Made entirely of steel, it is about 7" long and 3" tall. The wheels are 1" apart. I cannot find any markings.

I would like to know more about this train: age, make, and value. Thank you very much.

Greg

I suspect Hafner is the maker. The key is not Lionel and a better quality for Marx. They go back to the late 30's and 40's. Price under 50. A novelty for a collector. Check ebay and under model trains search 'wind up. ' it is good that you have the key.
