I like to salvage old lumber and give it a second life. I’ve posted here before about making boxes for train storage from salvaged mahogany. This time I made a few boxes for diecast and Streets vehicles using redwood tongue and groove that was on the side of my house for around 50 years and then in my crawlspace for another 20. I trimmed off the tongues and grooves, planed the redwood to 5/8” and cut 3/8” box joints. I used ¼” veneer plywood from an old chest of drawers for the bottoms. The boxes slide under the gorge which is located next to my Streets loop. Makes a convenient storage spot for when I change out Streets vehicles.
