New?
You have been in now since at least last year.:p

May I ask why you are looking for "old beat up and crappy locos"?
Most of what you are asking for might need motor work too?

Unless you building a RR grave yard?

Makes me think of radio stations..."Listen to the new KKZZ 101.7, The Eagle".

Three years later..."Listen to the new KKZZ 101.7, The Eagle.""

For how long is new "new"?

If there is a “update” ( could just be adding a song) it could be considered “new”

Well that is a good reason.
Keep your eye open for N scale on Craig's list and also I just recently discovered Facebook market place. Look in your local area. Might take some time but you may find some.
Watch ebay search N scale train lot. Sometime someone throws together a bunch in not so perfect shape to sell together.

I acquired my N scale from a Nephew.
If you want take a look at the thread.
(link down below)

Anyone else in your family besides your Dad have trains?
Sometimes some start then pack them up and put them away. Somebody might be wanting to get rid of some. Or friends? Friends Father (or Mother) who may have had them and quit running them.

My N scale started with the small layout in the thread. My big sister was moving I gave her $75 or a $100 for it and some trains, buildings etc.
Then my Nephew was moving and starting a family and wanted to get rid of his N scale, he had around $3000 into a layout.
He is into collecting guns. I traded him a 1938 single shot Springfield 22 rifle and a 1948 shotgun for all of it. They were only worth maybe $300 or so.

Also I forget your hobby store, if like a Mom and Pops type of hobby store let them know your in the market for used stuff.
They may come across someone who wants to get rid of their trains.
I was in my hobby shop once and an Older lady came in carrying an old Lionel O scale locomotive for an estimate on the value. They gave her a ball park estimate telling her it depended on who wanted it. She offered it to them at half of their estimate but they declined. They only have so much room to put their O scale section. She thanked them and walked out the door.
I was leaving and followed her out and offered her what she asked for them. She was happy just to get a few bucks for it and I was happy as I got a good deal. It pays to be in the right place at the right time.
Some may have a selling/buying board set up so you can place a small ad stating what your selling or looking for. See if they have one.

Whatever you do be careful when dealing with Craigslist or Facebook market. Don't let anyone in your house unless you know them. Have Dad with you for transactions? Just be wary, there are some devious people out there! Happy hunting.

I never sell any of my trains. If you think that N scale is a lot, you ought to look at my HO train thread.
Then I have my O scale.
One can never have enough trains! :p

My thread on mine N scale.
