Not often do you get excited about the introduction of a GP40 diesel engine, but the Rocky Mountaineer set of two is different, very different. Perhaps it is the spectacular paint job and the fact that this train is in "real time" today. Being a 100% passenger train guy, maybe I am more susceptible to be attracted to the beauty of this set. In any event, these diesels are stunners. And, they come with quill-able horns. All in all, one nice pair of GP40 diesels.

I borrowed Bill Webb's photos of his new Rocky Mountaineer set as I put mine back in their boxes until the matching passenger cars arrive.

Brian, I understand you being excited about these engines and the cars to come. They have a unique and beautiful paint job and, as you noted, they are in service today. You can ride the Rocky Mountaineer. In Lionel's heyday through the 1950s almost everything they made was contemporary or from the very recent past. We grew up on the excitement of contemporary railroading and there's still something exciting about it.

Today's passenger trains are all Amtrak, and, while they are pretty cool, they are all Amtrak. The 20th Century Limited, Broadway Limited, Super Chief, Empire Builder, Southern Crescent, etc, were all unique and special trains, and that has been lost. The Rocky Mountaineer brings that uniqueness back. It's a special like the great trains of old.

Well said, Joe.

Thanks for starting this thread Brian. I was not even aware this train ran in the Canadian Rockies thinking another company ran this service.
May have to book a trip now. Having visited the area a number of times its one of the most spectacular in North America.

Spent a few days in Nanaimo, BC Andreash. Loved Vancouver Island and decided to spend a few extra days not originally planned.

I really like the Paint Scheme on these GP40's! Nice video, Laz. I saw the matching passenger cars of these in MTH catalog the other night. I think they will look spectacular with the GP40's. Looks like MTH included backend ditch lights which is nice.

I have not heard the quilling diesel horn yet or as MTH calls it the playable horn. This is a new feature on MTH Premier diesels. I am wondering if it works like their quilling stem engine whistle. It says in MTH catalog that works on their WiFi App but not sure if it works on DCS Remote.

Speaking of "Rocky Mountaineer," I have not seen any posts from David in sometime. I hope he is ok?

Hi folks,

Sorry I haven't been posting here as regularly as I'd like to be. My 91-year-old Mom lives with us, and her health is very frail now. So my wife and I are otherwise focused on her care these days.

That being said... I did receive my Rocky Mountaineer locomotives as well a couple of weeks ago. And in addition to the twin GP40's, I have the earlier GP38 model released in 2017. So here are some quick iPhone photos of all 3 on the display shelf -- awaiting revenue service when the passenger cars arrive. ;)

Thanks David for chiming in and posting some really neat photos of these engines. I know you of all of the MTF members are delighted with this offering from MTH. Count me in as well as an enthusiastic supporter.

We all understand the situation with your Mom. Most of us have or will be in a similar situation. This is the time we come to their assistance for all of the support they have given us over their lifetime. Blessings to your Mom.
