Any chance of a photo! I'm not familiar with these cars.

 

Sorry, have to run to town for a new card for my camera. It went out and won't download pics to computer. I took photos and videos of both sound cars. But keep getting an error message when downloading. As soon as I can get new card I will post pics.

 

They have just been delivered, I'm still waiting for one. They have similar sounds to the VL PFE Reefers, but they're random and not command controlled.

 

Frankly, I found the Vision reefers and the noise they make annoying. However, if you like it, its much better if you have two: you can distribute the sound at different parts of a train, and when they "randomly" make some sounds, its at different times and more realistic.

So it is a cool feature, and the sounds are not bad. But I just could not get used to them. I've had days where only two PFE reefers are sitting on the shelf - you guessed it, the two sound cars I have.

Do you folks all remember the Lionel Hot Box reefers that came out about 10 years ago. Now those guys were really annoying. I have a couple and they have not seen the rails for years.

+1 on that. I would never own one of those. A club member who had one would use coal scent smoke fluid that would gag a maggot in a gut wagon. Between the sound and smell it will clear out a crowd in a hurry.
Might be handy to keep around when friends are over and you want to hint its time to go.

I am looking forward to the sound cars......when properly placed in a consist, I think they will add to the sense of realism.

As for the hot box reefer, I will quickly add my 2 cents. The Hot box reefer when coupled with Electric Railroads hot box reefer kit is the only way to operate this car. It gives you the option to remotely turn on and off the reefer special effects with your cab2 thus adding to the wow factor of running your trains.
