This is really a cool product. I ordered the NYC version on Jan 1st from MB Klein's, but still awaiting shipment. They must be running a bit behind from the various sales they've been offering.

This will be another "custom addition" project to my new layout. There's one particular spot I think it will fit perfectly. My plan is to control it through the DCS AIU as an accessory, so I'm hoping that push-button will be a straight-forward replacement!

It will be David. There are two screws under the button assembly that hold the wires, so hookup should be a breeze. Be aware that different sounds play depending upon button timing. If you push the start button, and then again within 5 seconds, the water sound will play a long sequence of over filling the tender and making a mess. I think it's hilarious! If you start it and then push the button AFTER 5 seconds, it will simply end the watering process and rotate dialog. I got pretty excited about this product when I saw the HO version in operation.

You can order it weathered with ATSF, UP, GN, NYC, PRR, WP or no logo at all. Mine is unlettered. They also offer it in barn red unweathered. (That one sounds kinda ugly to me. hahaha). Broadway Limited sells out fast so if you guys want one, better snatch one up.

I took a tape measure to it. 5.75" (main circumference) x 6.5" (ladder area widest point) is the footprint required , and it measures right at 11" tall.

 

Just got my shipping email alert this morning from MB Klein's. So I should have mine early this week.

I recall reading that the water tower footprint is roughly 6.25" in diameter. That's for the main structure itself -- not including the water spout projection when dropped in position to "fill" a locomotive. Height is roughly 11" according to the specs.

Thanks much for the video, Volphin. I had given up on seeing my UP version as I’ve had something else on order from this manufacturer that never turned up. (I was very surprised to see them offering an O scale product and jumped on the bandwagon straightaway - must be 18 months ago.) Lo and behold TrainWorld has shipped mine and it looks to be an amusing as well as scenic accessory. :smilie_daumenpos:

On a related topic, I wish someone would produce a decent water column for use around depots and roundhouses. The Poage column seems to have been popular in the mid-Atlantic region. When Walthers produced their 50,000 gallon tank kit a good while back, they included a water column in the kit. I've badgered them about making just the column available but to no avail.

 

Check out what Dave offers at Crescent Locomotive Works. He makes a nice water column that is reasonably priced. Has quite a few other interesting items also.

He is always at York.

 

My New York Central System water tower arrived yesterday while we were capturing more videos of the new layout. Team Dunham stopped by to check on things and make a few minor layout tweaks, as the layout gets acclimated to its new environment. (It's already been a month since the layout was installed the week of Dec 11th. And their customer service has been top-notch all the way!) We had 4 trains running at once yesterday, and it truly was a feast for the eyes and ears! Stay tuned for those video clips...

Anyway, here's the spot on the layout I had in mind for this cool water tower... just above the canal that separates the village from the industrial area.

Another fun addition to the layout for sure... now I just need to wire the water tower as a DCS accessory, and it'll be all set to go with more fun sights and sounds!

Well, once again I fall victim to one of these insidious product reviews/presentations for an item that wasn't in my sights!!

Really, I had no intention of buying this water tower ever since I first saw it so long ago. But it is so cool and with all my PRR engines, well, I had to have one and was victimized again by this forum!

My pleasure Brian! :laugh: We should put together a membership composite video of our water towers in action and send it to Broadway Ltd. Maybe they would do an automated coaling tower or some other O scale items. We should refocus their efforts from HO to O.
