In previous posts I have commented about less than desirable depth of field in many of my pictures. The best I have taken are with a Nikon in Aperture priority mode with the lens set at f22. Most of my pictures are taken with an iPhone 15 Pro Max. IPhones have fixed aperture lenses so basically they are always in aperture priority mode with only the shutter speed determined by the phone software.
I decided to try Apple’s adjustable depth of field feature that is software based. To do this the picture is taken in Portrait mode. This mode automatically selects the main lens which is 24mm at f1.78. With a fixed aperture of f1.78 the depth of field problem is apparent.
After taking the picture, select Edit. This brings up a number of options including a depth of field slider. Moving it up makes the depth less, down increases the depth of field. This is all done with software
Posted below are two pictures with max depth of field selected. These are as good as I can get with my Nikon with an f22 aperture. If you have an iPhone give this a try.
