In doing some background research on the Utah Railway, I bumped into some weird photos.

These Geeps are lettered for Utah, but stenciled with SP bloody noses.

#9146 even has the SP nose letters.

Just goes to show you... anything is possible when modeling a railroad!

This could justify a dedicated coal route on my layout.

[EDIT]:
Tangent, here I come.
Yikes!! $$$!!

Digging through the archives...

"To replace the loss of leased BN F45's 6613 and 6607 (which have been returned to BN) the Utah Railway leased two former SP diesels. Like the F45's, these units were owned by National Railway Equipment. The two new ones are SP 9146 and 9148."

"They were commonly found on the mine runs out of Martin, and used as helpers to Soldier Summit. They also made a few trips all the way to Provo with extra trains, when there was no UP power available. (Ryan Ballard) (CTC Board, December,1985)."

"Utah Railway re-lettered three former SP diesels. Utah Railway was to acquire two more former SP diesels (SP 9140 and 9150).(CTC Board, February, 1986)."
