It looks like those were either sold or leased to Utah from SP.
In the second pic the SP lettering is kinda shabby and Utah nice and clean.

Looking at pic one I think I can see SP painted over on the nose.

Digging through the archives...

"To replace the loss of leased BN F45's 6613 and 6607 (which have been returned to BN) the Utah Railway leased two former SP diesels. Like the F45's, these units were owned by National Railway Equipment. The two new ones are SP 9146 and 9148."

"They were commonly found on the mine runs out of Martin, and used as helpers to Soldier Summit. They also made a few trips all the way to Provo with extra trains, when there was no UP power available. (Ryan Ballard) (CTC Board, December,1985)."

"Utah Railway re-lettered three former SP diesels. Utah Railway was to acquire two more former SP diesels (SP 9140 and 9150).(CTC Board, February, 1986)."

 

Looks like I'll be getting some of these.

 

FYI: Those aren't 4 axle Geeps (GP). They are both 6 axle SD45s except the BN F45.
